Metal Recycling Prices August 2016

These are the latest indications of metal recycling prices in the UK. The prices detailed are in pounds per tonne. These prices are not guaranteed and are meant to be an indicator of market prices. They are compiled by letsrecycle.com.

This is the August report which details prices up to July 2016.

Ferrous Metals

0A plate & girder: 95 – 110

Prices increased between July and September 2014. They fell slightly in October but had risen again by January 2015. They fell in both February and March. They rose slightly between April and May. They fell again in June and July but rose slightly in August. They fell again in September and continued to do so in October. The price remained stable in November, December and January. Prices increased in February, March, April and again in May. The price fell in June. The bottom price increased in July.

No 1 old steel scrap: 85-90

Prices fell from January to July 2014. They rose in both August and September, the fell slightly in October but have remained stable until February 2015, when the price fell. They remained stable in March, rising slightly in April and May. They fell  in June and July but rose slightly in August. They fell again in September and continued to do so in October. The price remained stable in November and December. In January 2016, the top price increased. Prices increased in February, March, April and May. They fell again in June. Prices increased in July.

No 2 old steel scrap: 80 – 90

Prices fell between January and February 2015. They remained stable in March, rising slightly in April. They remain stable in May. The price fell in both June and July. They remained stable in August but fell in September and continued to do so in October. The price remained stable in November, December and January. Prices increased in February, March and April. The top price increased in May but it fell again in June. Prices increased in July.

4A low residual bales: 100 – 105

Prices rose throughout August and September 2014 but fell slightly in October. They remained stable until January when they fell slightly. The price fell further in February and again in July. They remained stable in August but fell in September and continued to do so in October. The price remained stable in November. They increased in December, through to April. The top price increased in May but it fell again in June. Prices increased in July

4C new production bales: 90 – 100

Prices fell in February 2014 and then stayed stable until falling again in June and July. They rose again throughout August and September but then fell until April 2015 when they rose slightly. The remain stable until June. Prices fell in both June and July. They remained stable in August but fell in September and October. The price remained stable in November and December.  They increased in January, through to April. The top price increased in May. Prices fell in June. They increased again in July.

Light iron: 45 – 58

Prices dropped in February 2014 and stayed mostly stable until August. There was a slight rise throughout August and September. The price then fell from September until March, rising in April 2015 but falling in May. They remained stable in June but fell in July. They remained stable in August but fell in September and October. The price increased in November and December. It remained stable in January and February but increased in March, April and May. The prices fell in June. They increased again in July.

7B mixed steel turnings: 55- 65

Prices trended downwards from January to July 2014. They rose in August and were stable in September but fell between September and February 2015. Prices have risen again in April and May. They remained stable in June but fell in July. They remained stable in August but fell in September, October and November. The price increased in December. It remained stable in January 2016 but increased in February, through to May. Prices fell in June but increased again in July.

8B mixed steel cuttings: 75 – 85

Prices dropped from January to March 2015, rising in April. They remained stable in May but fell in both June and July. They remained stable in August but fell in September and October. The price remained stable in November but fell in December. The price increased in January, through to May. In June, the top price fell. Prices in general increased in July.

9 – 10 cast: 75 – 85

Prices have fallen since January 2014 except for slight rises in March, July, August and September. Prices also rose in January and April 2015. The price dropped in both June and July. They remained stable in August but fell in September and October. Prices widened in November, with higher prices rising. Prices were stable in December and January and February. The price increased in March, April and May. Prices fell again in June. They increased in July.

11 cast iron borings: 60 – 70

Prices rose between October 2014 and January 2015 but fell in February and again in March, rising slightly in April but falling again in June. They remained stable until July, when they fell. In August, the top price increased. Prices fell in September and October. Prices widened in November, with higher prices rising. Prices were stable in December, January and February. The price increased in March, April and May. Prices fell in June. They increased in July.

Cars: 40 – 55

Prices have fallen since January 2014 except for slight rises in March, August and September. They have fallen particularly fast since January 2015 but remained stable in April, May and June. They fell again in July and the top price fell in August. Prices fell in September and October. Prices rose again November but were stable in December, January and February. The price increased in March, April and May. Prices fell again in June but increased in July.

Non-ferrous Metals

Dry bright wire: 3100

Prices fell again February 2015. There were steady rises in price in March, April and May but they dropped in June, July and August. They have remained stable until October, when they fell slightly. The price remained stable until March, when it increased. The prices was stable in April but increased in May. The price fell in June but increased again in July.

Heavy copper: 2700

Prices fell from January 2015 till April and then rose from May till August. They fell between September and February.

They have remained stable until May be dropped in June, July and August. They remained stable until December, when they fell.

Prices increased again in January 2016 and remained stable in  February. They increased in March and again in April. They were stable in May but fell in June. The price increased again in July.

No 2 copper wire: 2600

Prices fell during September and October 2014 but remained stable until February 2015, when they fell. They remained stable until rising again in April.

They have remained stable until May but dropped in June, July and August.  They remained stable until December, when they fell. Prices were stable until March, when they increased. They increased again in April and in May but fell in June. The price increased again in July.

Braziery copper: 2300

Prices fell from January till April and then rose from May till August. They remained stable until October but fell up until March 2015. In March and April, prices rose.

They have remained stable until May be dropped in June, July and August. They remained stable until December, when they fell.  Prices were stable until March, when they increased. They increased again in April and in May but fell in June. Prices increased in July.

Insulated copper cable: 1000

Prices fell from January till April 2014 and then rose from May till August. They fell slightly in September and October and fell again in February 2015. They remained mostly stable until July, when they fell. They fell again in August, then remained stable until October, when they increased slightly.

Prices remained stable until December, when they fell. Prices were stable until March, when they increased. They were stable until July, when they increased.

Brass cuttings: 1800

Prices fell from January till April 2014 and then rose from May till September. They fell between September and February 2015, rising again in April. They fell again in both July and August. They remained stable until October, when they increased slightly. Prices remained stable until December, when they fell. Prices were stable until June, when they increased. They have been stable since.

Brass swarf: 1800

Prices fell from January till April 2014 and then rose from May till September. They rose slightly in October then fell till rising in April 2015.

Prices remained stable in May be dropped again in June and July. Prices remained stable until December, when they fell. Prices were stable until April, when they increased. They increased again in June and July.

Brass and copper radiators: 1300

Prices fell from January till April 2014 and then rose from May till September. They fell between September and January 2015.  Prices remained stable in May be dropped again in June, July and August. They remained stable in September. The increased again in October but, in November, they returned to their previous level. The price continued to fall in December.

Prices were stable until May 2016, when they increased. They were stable until July, when they increased.

Mixed brass: 1900

Prices fell from January till April 2014 and then rose from May till September. They fell in October but have remained stable until July. They fell in both July and August. They remained stable until May, when they increased. They increased again in July.

Heavy brass: 1900

Prices fell from January till April 2014 and then rose from May till August. They have fallen since September but rose in May 2015. They dropped again in June, July and August. They remained stable until May, when they increased. They were stable until July, when they increased.

Gunmetal: 2100

Prices fell in September 2014 but rose a little in October. They fell between October and January 2015 but rose slightly in February. Prices remained stable in May be dropped again in June, July and August. They remained stable until December, when they fell. They remained stable until July, when they increase.

Pure aluminium cuttings: 700

Prices were stable from January to August 2014. They rose from August to September, fell between September and January and have remained stable until July, when they fell. They fell again in August. They remained stable until December, when they fell. They remained stable until July, when they increase.

Aluminium alloy cuttings: 700

Prices were stable from January to August 2014. They rose from August to September. They fell in October but have remained stable until July, when they fell substantially. They fell again in August. They remained stable until December, when they fell. They have remained stable since.

Old rolled aluminium: 500

Prices were stable between February and August 2014. There was a slight rise between August and September. They fell in October, remained mostly stable until June, when they fell. They continued to fall in August and September. In October, they recovered slightly. In November, the price fell again. The price was stable until May, when it increased. It increased again in July.

Clean cast aluminium: 700

Prices were stable between January and August 2014. There was a slight rise between August and September. Prices fell in October and rose again in April. They remained stable until June, when the fell again and continued to do so in July, August and September. In October, they recovered slightly. They fell again in November, December and January. The price was stable until May, when it increased. Prices increased again in July.

Aluminium turnings: 450

Prices fell between October and January 2015. They remained stable until June, when the fell again. They remained stable in July but fell again in August. They have remained stable since.

Aluminium foil: 200

The price fell in August 2015 but has remained stable since.

Lead scrap: 950

Prices rose in September 2014 but fell in the period up to January 2015. Prices remained stable in April, rising in May. The fell again in July and continued to fall in August but remained stable in September and October. The price increased in November but fell in December. The price was stable until February, when it increased. It increased again in March and April. The price was stable until July 2016, when it increased.

Batteries: 420

Prices dropped slightly between January and September 2014. They fell between October 2014 and February 2015. They remained stable until October, when they fell slightly. They remained stable until December, when they fell slightly. The price was stable until February, when it increased. The price was stable until May, when it increased. The price has been stable since.

Zinc mixed scrap: 400

Prices had been stable between January and September 2014. They then rose during September but fell in October. They remained stable until December, when they fell. The price has been stable since.

Zinc cuttings: 400

Prices were stable between January and September 2014. They then rose during September.  They remained stable until December, when they fell. The price has been stable since.

18 – 8 stainless steel solids: 570

Prices rose slowly between January and September 2014. They remained stable up to February 2015, when they rose slightly. The fell again in March, rising in April and May. They fell again in June and again through August and September. They fell again in November, December and January. The price increased in February. It was stable until May, when it increased. The price fell in June. The price increased in July.

Aluminium Cans

Baled or densified and strapped: 740 – 780

The price dropped from January 2014 till March and then rose in April and May. It was stable between May and July. The price then rose between July and September and remained stable in October. The price fell in November but recovered in December 2014.

Prices fell in January 2015 remained stable in February but rose in March and May. They then fell in June, July, August and September. Prices narrowed in October. Prices increased in November and December. The price was stable until February, when it increased. The price continued to rise in March, April and May. Prices then fell slightly in June. They increased again in July.

Steel Cans

Steel cans (ex-works): 45 – 70

The price dropped from January until March 2014. It then rose from April to June, dropping again in July. The price rose in August and remained stable in September.

Prices then fell in October and November. They remained stable up until February 2015, when they fell. They fell again in March, rising in April and May. They fell again in June, July, August and September. Prices narrowed in October, with the top price falling. Prices increased again in November but fell in January. The price narrowed in January, with the top price falling. The price was stable until April, when it increased. They increased again in May. Prices fell again in June. They have been stable since.
